St Albans Choral Society gave its first performance in December 1944, and throughout its history has performed a huge part of the choral repertoire, with composers that include Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Carl Orff, Schubert, Verdi and Vivaldi. In recent seasons the choir has introduced several contemporary works into its concert programmes, and enjoys a special relationship with Cecilia McDowall, one of today's outstandingly original composers. Currently having about eighty members, the choir regularly performs at St Albans Abbey and in church venues throughout St Albans, ably supported by outstanding soloists and the professional accompaniment of Orchestra Nova.
