Harpenden Lions Club is a service organisation providing practical help and assistance to those in Harpenden, Wheathampstead and Redbourn in Hertfordshire. The Club also raises funds for local, national and international charities.
The main event is the Harpenden Highland Gathering which raised £10,000 last year and attracted 8,000 visitors. Other fund raisers include charity bookshops, tin shakes, Easter egg raffles, concerts and dances, etc.
As part of Lions Club International, the world's largest service organisation, the Club also gets involved with international projects such as mobile eye hospitals, funding water wells, education assistance in Africa and India, sending old dental equipment to developing countries and many other worthwhile causes.
The Club meets twice a month in Harpenden on Tuesday evenings and at many other times for social events, often with partners included. Like minded people are encouraged to attend meetings to see whether they would like to join this Club, which currently has over 30 members. |
