Activity Exchange Public Description feature. Q. What is a Public Description? A. Each Activity is set to one of three kinds of Visibility. If an Activity is Public anyone can see all the details of it. Only Club Members can see anything about Hidden Activities. Private Activities fall between these two extremes. If an Activity is Private then anyone can see the Date/Time, Title and Public Description of the Activity. Q. Is the Public Description compulsory? A. Not at all. Q. What are the advantages of a giving an Activity a Public Description? A. It allows you to tell the world more about the Activity without revealing any of the other information such as the name and phone numbers of the Organisers. This will let people find out more about your Activities and so attract them to your Club. Q. Can an Activity have an ordinary Description as well as a Public Description? A. Yes it can. This allows you to have a Public Description that does not reveal private information and an ordinary Description, available only to your members, which is more open. Q. Can Public and Hidden Activities have a Public Description? A. Yes they can but it serves no useful purpose. Everyone can see everything about a Public Activity anyway, no-one can see anything about a Hidden Activity except Club Members. The Public Description is not used for Public and Hidden Activities unless there is no Description. Q. What happens if an Activity does not have an ordinary Description but does have a Public Description? A. In this case the Public Description will be used in all circumstances where the ordinary description would have been used. Only having a Public Description is a sensible thing to do if the Activity Description does not have anything that you want to keep Private. Q. Where is the Public Description shown? A. If you float the cursor over a Link to an Activity on the Home Page or on the Index or Grid Listing you will see the Public Description. The Public Description is shown in the Diary Listing as an alternative to the ordinary Description if you are not logged on. If you click on a link to an Activity that needs an AccessCode, then as well as the prompt for the AccessCode you will see the Public Description. This will make for a better experience for visitors. Q. Will Search Engines see the Public Description? A. Yes they will. This is a great way of attracting more traffic to your Club. |
